NATHAN DAVIS

streets of anchortowne

lyrics and music by Nathan Davis

Got a first-class ticket to nowhere,
Gonna find my promised land;
It's somewhere out there waiting,
In that desert sand.

But I'm up here, and I'm feeling down, on the streets of Anchortowne;
And there ain't no one else around on the streets of Anchortowne.

I followed my thumb to be here,
With my guitar in my hand;
Found myself in the river,
When I saw a broken man.

I'm up here, and I'm feeling down, on the streets of Anchortowne;
There ain't no one else around on the streets of Anchortowne.

The night sky's on fire above this higher ground;
And my bottle now lies empty on the streets of Anchortowne.

handwritten note from Alaska

I wrote the guitar part in my friend Dick Singleton's cabin in Clam Gulch, Alaska one winter when I was staying with him, and finished up the lyrics on a street in Anchorage, hence the name.
