NATHAN DAVIS

bridges

lyrics and music by Nathan Davis

I'm burning down all my bridges,
And I'm leaving town, gonna see what I can be.
When I look around at all the empty faces,
All I see are clowns looking for a higher ground.

Come on and lie to me and tell me that you love me;
Haven't heard those words in such a long, long time. [long, long time]
Don't set me free until I need to fly away;
Seems like that's all I do these days.

[You know I don't want you to go]
Everything I see tells me NO.
Lord, but there's no devil on my shoulder;
I said, I've got no god up in the sky
To give me one good reason why

I'm burning down all my bridges,
And I'm leaving town, gonna see what I can be.
When I look around at all the empty faces,
All I see are clowns looking for a higher ground.

Baby, dry your eyes and tell me that you'll be all right.
I'll be gone but only till the moon is high;
Cause I've been losing faith, losing faith in innocence,
And I still believe you've got lovin' in your eyes.

So I'm burning down all my bridges,
And I'm leaving town, gonna see what I can be.
When I look around at all the empty faces,
All I see are clowns looking for a higher ground.

Out of their skins

Originally written as a solo piece, I changed the lyrics around to include a female vocal for a duet. Fortunately, I have some talented friends, so Jessica came into the studio one night very late and re-recorded this as we would on stage—live and very carefully.
